Lake Mälaren is the scenic heart of Sweden, its shores dotted with remarkable towns and historic landmarks. This journey takes you to three true gems of Swedish history and architecture: the charming town of Sigtuna, the magnificent Skokloster Castle, and the university city of Uppsala — places where history comes alive amid beautiful landscapes and architectural masterpieces.

Your day begins in Sigtuna, the oldest town in Sweden and its first capital. Traces of its former importance can still be seen in the ruins of medieval monasteries and an impressive collection of runestones — more than anywhere else in the world. Today, Sigtuna captivates visitors with its calm, intimate atmosphere: narrow streets, wooden houses, green courtyards, small shops, and cozy cafés. It’s the perfect place to slow down, enjoy a stroll, and experience a traditional Swedish fika in one of the country’s oldest cafés.

Next, you will visit Skokloster Castle, a grand 17th-century Baroque residence beautifully set on the shores of Lake Mälaren. The castle is renowned for its impressive architecture and richly preserved interiors. Inside, you’ll discover an extraordinary collection of weapons, artworks, books, and historical artifacts. Your guide will share fascinating stories of how these treasures were acquired on European battlefields, turning the castle into a true Baroque-era treasure house.

The final stop is Uppsala, the spiritual and intellectual center of Sweden. In Old Uppsala, ancient burial mounds rise from the landscape, surrounded by legends of Viking kings and Norse gods. In contrast, modern Uppsala reveals a more monumental face: the magnificent 13th-century cathedral — the largest in Scandinavia, the country’s oldest university, and botanical gardens founded by Carl Linnaeus himself. Here, ancient traditions meet centuries of scholarship and cultural life.

This excursion offers a full and rewarding day, moving from Viking legends and medieval heritage to Baroque splendor and the academic grandeur of Uppsala — a journey through the many layers of Sweden’s past.
