Why this tour
  • Scenic cruise along breathtaking Lysefjord
  • Hike to Norway’s most famous natural landmark
  • Feel freedom from 604 meters above the fjord
  • Experience the charm of Stavanger’s Old Town at the end of the day

This day will give you three unforgettable experiences: a mesmerizing cruise along Lysefjord, a hike to the legendary Pulpit Rock (Preikestolen), and a leisurely stroll through the cozy streets of Stavanger.

After meeting your guide at your hotel, the cruise port, or another agreed location, you will embark on a sea journey from Stavanger’s harbor to the entrance of the famous Lysefjord, known for its dramatic cliffs and emerald-green waters. The route passes picturesque islands, sheer rock walls, and waterfalls.

The boat will then stop at a small fjord-side village, where your driver-guide will meet you and take you to the starting point of the hike to the mountain plateau known as Pulpit Rock (17 km, about 25 minutes by car).

From here begins your ascent to Norway’s most iconic natural attraction. You will follow a well-marked trail through the forest, passing along a lake far below, to the rocky plateau, covering about 4 km one way. After a 1.5–2.5-hour hike, countless rocky stairs and wooden platforms, and a total elevation gain of over 500 meters, you will finally reach Norway’s most famous scenic viewpoint.

The square, flat plateau rises majestically above Lysefjord, resembling a giant pulpit. Every year, more than 300,000 nature-loving hikers visit this renowned rock formation, and when you stand on the plateau, you will understand why it is so popular. The calm blue surface of Lysefjord beneath you, the vast sky above (hopefully blue!), and a moment of eternity within you. Take your time to fully savor this moment.

Your guide will accompany you along the way, offering tips for a comfortable hike, pointing out the best photo spots, and sharing fascinating stories about Norway and its traditions.

The descent takes about 1.5–2 hours. Back at the trailhead, you can relax and try traditional Norwegian dishes in a local café.

We then return to Stavanger (40–50 minutes, 40 km). If time allows, you will end the day with a short Stavanger guided walk (about 30 minutes) — enjoy the charm of the Old Town and admire the harbor views.

For those who wish to explore Stavanger in more depth, we also offer a full walking tour of the city.
