The journey from Helsinki to Porvoo takes you along a scenic road past granite cliffs and quiet lakes. In just about an hour, you will find yourself in a town where time seems to have slowed down. 

The Old Town of Porvoo feels like a fairy-tale illustration: wooden houses lining the riverbank, historic bridges, and a majestic 13th-century cathedral rising above the town. Walking along narrow cobbled streets once home to merchants and craftsmen, you will notice old trade signs — a tailor’s scissors or a baker’s pretzel — and hear the stories these houses have witnessed over the centuries. 

Your guide will tell you about Swedish kings and Russian emperors whose traces remain in this small town, show you the famous "Devil’s Staircase", and the so-called "Palace" where monarchs once stayed. You will visit the home of Johan Ludvig Runeberg, Finland’s national poet and the author of the national anthem, and have the chance to taste the famous Runeberg pastry made according to his wife’s recipe in one of the town’s cafés.
